Piano is maybe the most requested instrument for those interested in lessons. It is a literal picture of musical pitch on a linear grid composed of recognizable patterns that even developing minds can recognize. It is a very expressive instrument, and its keyboard is used to play electronic and other pitched instruments, such as the organ, synthesizer, keytar (far-out!), and most modern MIDI controllers.
Depending upon the student's goals, we can focus on learning to play traditional piano, basic vocal accompaniment, ear-training, pop-keyboard skills, or preparing for performances. In any case, we will incorporate music theory (reading, writing, and understanding musical symbols), posture, technique, and scales.
Materials utilized are a notebook, a pencil, a metronome, a keyboard or piano, and a textbook. The student's specific interests, aspirations, age, and skill level will determine specific books, music, and the like beyond that.
Lessons are available for beginner (even pre-reader) to intermediate level students.
