Do you provide musical instruments for the lessons?
If students come to PHŌSmuLab (our home studio), I have a full-sized, weighted, electric keyboard for piano lessons, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, an electric bass, an acoustic drumset, and an electric drumset - all of which may be used by the student during lessons.
If the student is taking saxophone lessons, a saxophone will need to be rented or owned by the student.
In any case, it is best for the student to have access to his or her own instrument for practice between lessons, in any case, and I am happy to make recommendations.
How long are the lessons?
Lessons may be thirty, forty-five, sixty, or ninety minutes.
Do I have to commit to a certain number of lessons or sign a contract?
At this time, there is no lessons minimum, and we do not deal with signed agreements. We know that life happens, and we just ask for the courtesy of communication.
Do you do "in-home" lessons? Are you able to come to our house?
Yes - we do offer in-home lessons. A commute fee will be added per-radius (within 5 miles = $5; 5 to 10 miles = $10; etc), and availability may be limited.
Can I pay with a Venmo or a credit card?
We try to accommodate all main forms of payment, so we do accept cash, Zelle, Venmo, CASH App, and PayPal. If a credit card payment is necessary, we transact via PayPal and add the fee.
What is the youngest my child can begin lessons?
Generally, we do not necessarily have a starting age set. Children who know how to read are usually more ready for the textbooks and theory. Small children may do better on a ukulele than a guitar or bass. We do our best to use colors and other fun devices for pre-readers, and progress can take patience in such cases.
Do you offer recitals, concerts, or contests for students?
First, we try to focus on a student's efforts to get to where he or she hopes to be with a musical instrument. We do not currently offer recitals or concerts, and we do not enroll students in recitals. It is possible that we may organize performances, and playing for family and friends is always encouraged!
